Legendary BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Nightingale, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 83, left an estate valued at £1.1 million to her two children, Alex and Lucy, according to probate records.
Late BBC Radio 1 DJ and icon Annie Nightingale is said to have left a £1m estate to her family, according to probate records. The legendary presenter, who was the first female host on the station, passed away earlier this year at 83 due to a short illness.
The star was not only Radio 1’s longest-serving broadcaster, but also held the record for the longest career as a female radio presenter. "Never underestimate the role model she became. Breaking down doors by refusing to bow down to sexual prejudice and male fear gave encouragement to generations of young women who, like Annie, only wanted to tell you about an amazing tune they had just heard.
Annie, who hailed from Middlesex, first started working as a journalist in Brighton. Kickstarting her career at the Brighton and Hove Gazette as a general reporter, but quickly moved up to the Brighton Evening Argus where she wrote features, diary entries and general reports.
