The 61-year-old is expected to appear at Newry Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, April 24
Twenty-eight days after he was arrested, former DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson is preparing for his first court appearance over a number of charges centred on claims of historical sexual offences.
He was taken to Antrim Custody Suite for interview where he was charged with a series of non-recent sexual offences. A 57-year-old woman was also arrested and charged and she was bailed to a separate address. She is also expected before the courts on Wednesday morning.Read more: Courts NI working to create space for news media covering Jeffrey Donaldson case
How long will Wednesday's court appearance be? It is expected to be very short. There may be an application for an alteration to bail conditions, there may be a request for reporting restrictions. Other than that Donaldson will be asked to confirm his name and date of birth as will his co-accused and it is most likely that another date will be set for review.
“In accordance with the Party Rules, the Party Officers have suspended Mr Donaldson from membership, pending the outcome of a judicial process. What bail conditions were imposed? Both Donaldson and the co-accused have specific bail conditions imposed. He was bailed to a flat in London and she was bailed to her home in Dromore, Co Down. They were not permitted to have contact with each other and had an order barring them from residing in the same property and from leaving the UK.
