The lawsuit's purpose is to address the Columbus Police Department's culture of excessive force, particularly against people of color that has happened for decades, according to a statement fromAn investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice found a pattern of excessive force, false arrests, and discriminatory practices within the Columbus Police Force in 1998, according to the statement.
The lawsuit will urge the court to address the CPD's culture of excessive force and racial hostility, and 11 specific commonsense reforms, according to the statement.
