McKinlay has given an update on the Jambos skipper's contract situation - and backed Shankland to rediscover his top form

Hearts chief Andrew McKinlay insists he’d happily reopen contract talks with Lawrence Shankland - but warned he'll never smash the club’s wage structure to keep the skipper.

The Scotland striker hit 59 goals in 94 appearances across his first two seasons in Gorgie and was the Premiership's top scorer last year but has only netted once in 11 games this season. However, Tynecastle CEO has backed him to rediscover his form in front on goal. And he says if he wants to reopen contract talks then he’d only be too pleased to sit down and talk terms.

“We've never been told that, no one has ever said that. That, to me, seems to be the obvious conclusion of where we're heading towards. You would happily have the talks but, as of today, there is nothing as such.” “Lawrence has had two magnificent seasons. He's had a difficult start to this season, but I've no doubt he'll have a third good season.
