INDIANAPOLIS — A teenage student in Lawrence Township faces criminal charges after allegedly pointing a loaded gun at another student on May 14.
According to court documents, eyewitnesses saw the student driving in the parking lot of the McKenzie Career Center when he pointed a loaded Glock 23 .40 caliber handgun at another student. Upon search of the student's vehicle, a loaded gun with a 13 round magazine in the gun was found. There were seven rounds loaded.The student was transported to juvenile. Charges are pending.A Lawrence Schools spokesperson shared the following letter that was sent to parents.
Recognizing parents’ right to timely and accurate information about student safety, I want to share with you an incident that occurred on our campus. This afternoon, an MCIT student was taken into police custody for possession of a loaded handgun on school property. While the gun never entered the school, weapons of any sort have no place on school property. When the gun was seen by students in the parking lot, they immediately notified administration and security was involved.
I want to thank those students who recognized an unsafe situation and took appropriate action to ensure the safety of all who attend classes on our campus. Only by working together can we provide the level of safety that we want for our students and that they deserve. Lawrence Township Schools The spokesperson did not address the issue of the student pointing the gun at other students.
