Western Australian Premier Roger Cook has announced the state government has scrapped its under-fire Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act, about five weeks after it was introduced.
WA Premier Roger Cook made the announcement at a media conference on Tuesday alongside Aboriginal Affairs Minister Tony Buti.
"As Premier, I understand that the legislation has unintentionally caused stress, confusion and division in the community. And for that, I am sorry," he said. "But our response to Juukan Gorge was wrong. We got the balance wrong and what we did hasn't worked," Mr Cook continued.
