The Hurricanes finally got a power-play goal ... and a win.
RALEIGH, N.C. — It was the kind of goal that sinks a season, that sends a franchise hurtling into an uncertain summer and haunts a goaltender for the rest of his career, if not his life. lost his post, and in turn, might have lost the whole dang series. Two minutes into the third period, with the up 3-2 in the game but down 3-0 in the second-round series, winger banked in a shot from behind the net off Andersen’s backside, tying the game and pushing Carolina to the brink.
It would have been nice to have been able to cruise to victory from there, to put the hammer down and exert some dominance. But there’s nothing nice about the Stanley Cup playoffs, nothing pleasant about playing these Rangers. And in the end, this was better. This meant more. It had to be dramatic.
