Prison services said that they are investigating both the quality of the food and the use of mobile phones by prisoners.
A prisoner has said he would ‘rather starve’ than eat the food he is being offered as he leaked pictures of the questionable plates of food being served to him behind bars.
Plates of brown liquid and unidentifiable meats as well as ‘soggy fish and chips’ were among the meals the prisoner managed to take snaps of.What appears to be liver The inmate who leaked the pictures – who has not been named – blasted the meals as ‘worse than dog food’, and said he’d ‘rather starve’ than chew it down.
When the pictures were forwarded to the Ministry of Justice, a spokesman said that all meals served to those behind bars meet nutritional guidelines. The prisoner could now face an extended jail term for taking and publishing pictures of his ‘grim’ dinners, as they are believed to have been photographed on a banned mobile phone.The Prison Service said in a statement: ‘All prisoners are offered fruit and vegetables as part of three healthy meals a day, which meet nutritional guidelines set out by the Food Standards Agency and the Department of Health.
‘We are investigating these pictures and any prisoner found using a mobile can face extra time behind bars.’
