Lee Mason leaves PGMOL less than a week on from high-profile error
Lee Mason has left the PGMOL less than a week on from his high-profile error in Arsenal’s draw with Brentford.
Ivan Toney’s equaliser was incorrectly allowed to stand by the video assistant referee, despite Christian Norgaard being offside, and Ethan Pinnock appearing to interfere with play in the build-up. However, that act will be Mason’s last in the Premier League, as a statement from the organisation confirmed.
“Lee was a Premier League referee for 15 years and oversaw 287 top-flight matches during that time, with his last coming during the closing stages of the 2021/22 season.“His full career in the professional game saw the 51-year-old officiate in over 500 fixtures after he progressed to the Football League in 1998.
