Leeds United could see their transfer plans impacted by Southampton's Spygate scandal
Daniel Farke will keep a keen eye on the outcome of Southampton's Spygate controversy, but they're reportedly demanding £20million for the midfielder's services. The 23-year-old is set to enter the final year of his contract.
However, any move is likely to depend on the verdict handed to the Saints, who were charged by the EFL for spying on a Middlesbrough training session two days before the first leg of their play-off semi-final. The EFL confirmed that a disciplinary hearing would take place on or before Tuesday, with Tonda Eckert's side currently scheduled to take on Hull City in the Wembley play-off final on Saturday.
With Leeds securing their Premier League status earlier this month, the Yorkshire side will be keen to improve their squad, but plans to acquire Hackney could be affected. Should Middlesbrough be reinstated into the play-offs, promotion to the top-flight is alive and should they capture that, the club could decide to hang onto their key star or place a significantly higher price tag on him.
If the EFL rules in Southampton's favour, Middlesbrough could find it difficult to keep Hackney and would lack the leverage to negotiate for a higher fee, leaving Leeds potentially signing him for a lower price than first touted. It's been a successful return to the top-flight for the Whites, who sit 14th in the table with one game to go.
Despite looking like relegation contenders as recently as March, Farke's side have gone on an incredible eight-match unbeaten streak since then.via Dominic Calvert-Lewin's stoppage-time winner, the German boss spoke directly to the fans at Elland Road to laud the supporters for their constant backing. Farke said: "This game more or less sums up perfectly our whole season. The mentality, spirit and fight in this dressing room is second to none. This is why we can celebrate all together today.
