Bonfires in Bramley Park, East End Park, Middleton Park, Roundhay Park, Springhead Park and Woodhouse Moor will not go ahead
Six bonfire events in Leeds will not go ahead this year after plans to cancel them proposed by the council passed through consultation.
The council usually holds a city bonfire event at Roundhay Park, as well as five community events at Bramley Park, East End Park, Middleton Park, Woodhouse Moor and Springhead Park. A report into the events said the Roundhay display is one of the largest in the country and can attract up to 70,000 visitors.
A similar number said they were worried about litter caused by the events and 65.9% were concerned about the impact on domestic animals, including pets. The council considered holding one event to reduce costs but said there would be safety concerns and the additional costs of one large event were prohibitive.
