Leeds' Hyde Park Picture House is believed to be the last gas-lit cinema in the world.

The cinema opened in November 1914, just after the outbreak of World War One, when it broadcast news bulletins and morale-boosting dramas.Plans were made in 2014 - the cinema's centenary year - to protect the building for a further 100 years The Grade-II listed building on Brudenell Road in the Hyde Park area of Leeds has been closed for three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic and renovation work
About £100,000 was raised through community fundraising, including supporters paying for a plaque to be installed on seats carrying a personal message. "It's very atmospheric with the gas lamps inside and it's embedded in the community - it's charming that it's still here as so many places have died away."
