A Leeds council flat resident has criticized Yorkshire Water after a burst water main flooded the entrance of the flats in icy conditions. Mark Dacre, 59, from Farsley , condemned the company for leaving the 'lethal' burst pipe in front of Andrew House on Water Lane after it burst on Thursday, January 9, during a cold spell. Yorkshire Water workers arrived the following day but left the water overflowing, only returning later that evening to fix the issue.
For about 24 hours, water flowed across the pathway in front of the building and down the steps leading to the entrance, creating a waterfall effect.Mark claims workers had visited earlier in the day but left as their van couldn't reach the pipes. Yorkshire Water stated they couldn't immediately fix it due to the snow and ice. Mark expressed frustration, saying, 'What is their truck, is it some sort of special piece of equipment? It's just b***s***. What they're really saying is 'We don't know what we're doing. We've just come around here and it's a bit beyond our capabilities.' 'He added his concern that someone might slip and fall, stating, 'When it gets freezing tonight, people aren't going to see it and it's just going to look like normal steps. At four o'clock in the morning, someone is going to walk down there and break their bleeding back. It's downright lethal.' The 59-year-old also criticized the management of building repairs by Leeds City Council, saying they lacked proper maintenance and coordination.Leeds City Council responded, stating that resident safety is their priority and they worked with partners to ensure the repair was completed efficiently and safely. Yorkshire Water apologized for the inconvenience and stated they worked as quickly as possible under challenging weather conditions. They also promised to reinstate the area as soon as possible
