Super League strugglers Hull FC have signed two players from Australia’s NRL ahead of next weekend’s clash with Leeds Rhinos.
Newcastle Knights second-rower Jed Cartwright and Treigh Stewart, a full-back who has been playing with Brisbane Tigers in the Queensland Cup, have both signed an 18-month contract. They have been released by their current clubs and will arrive in the UK “in the coming weeks” once visas have been granted. Rhinos won 18-12 at Hull in April and return there on Saturday, June 15. Cartwright is the son of John Cartwright who will become Hull’s coach next season.
The 27-year old Australian is a product of the Penrith Panthers youth system and has also played for South Sydney. Stewart, 23, was part of the St George Illawarra Dragons youth system before joining Brisbane Tigers ahead of the 2024 season. He played for the Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister’s XIII against Australia’s Prime Minister’s XIII in 2023.
