Leeds United face a tough test holding onto top spot in the Championship
Sat proudly at the top of the Championship table for the first time this season, Leeds United will hope to keep hold of their lofty position in the coming weeks as the build-up to the busy Christmas period arrives. The Whites showed their resilience and quality in snatching a dramatic winner at Swansea City on Sunday and now play twice more in a handful of days as the league continues to take shape.
First up it's Luton Town at home and a match with last season's Premier League side who have two wins from their last three games, then a lunchtime lick-off against a Blackburn Rovers team who returned from the international break with a win to snap their three-match losing streak. While Leeds face a tricky test, so do their nearest league rivals with Sunderland and Sheffield United meeting each other at Bramall Lane on Friday night. Before then Sunderland host sixth-placed West Brom tonight to start a week that could tell us plenty about their realistic chances of hanging around at the top of the table.
Meanwhile, the Blades have what looks like a comfortable home game tonight with Oxford United, who lie 18th with four defeats from their last five outings. Fourth-placed Burnley have arguably the best fixture list this week with 17th-placed Coventry at The Hawthorns tonight before a game at 12th-placed Stoke City this weekend, while Middlesbrough have a home double-header against Blackburn Rovers and underperforming Hull City.
