Joe Gelhardt seeks regular playing time with Hull City loan. The Leeds United forward has struggled for opportunities at Elland Road this season and is looking to regain his form and confidence in the Championship.
Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt has joined fellow Championship side Hull City on loan for the rest of the season. The 22-year-old striker has been seeking regular playing time and sees this move as an opportunity to regain his form and confidence. Gelhardt has struggled for first-team football at Elland Road this season, managing only one start - a 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Middlesbrough in August.
He has made just three starts since the start of the 2022/23 campaign and with Joel Piroe, Patrick Bamford, and Mateo Joseph ahead of him in the pecking order, opportunities have been limited. With Hull boss Ruben Selles' tactics favoring a lone striker, Gelhardt felt a loan move was the best option to secure regular playing time. He hopes to make his debut for Hull City against Millwall on Saturday, having already trained with his new teammates. Gelhardt expressed his excitement about the move and working under Selles, stating that he sees himself playing off the nine, potentially on the right or just behind the striker. His primary aim is to contribute goals and assists to help Hull City win games. 'It’s a happy moment for me,' Gelhardt said. 'I’ve spoken to the manager about the plans and direction the club is going in and I can’t wait to get started and get playing,' He added, 'Every footballer wants to train hard all week and get rewarded with playing on the weekend. That hasn’t happened for me in the last few years, so I’m really excited to get playing again and get that matchday feeling back,' Gelhardt's loan to Hull is the second signing for the club this January transfer window, following Matt Crooks' arrival last week
