Leeds United remain the bookmakers' favorites for promotion from the Championship despite a 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday. The Whites lead the table by three points after Sheffield United lost 2-1 to Sunderland and Burnley were held to a goalless draw by Stoke City. Daniel Farke will, however, regret the missed opportunity to extend his team's lead to six points against Blackburn.
After a frustrating majority of the match, Leeds looked set for victory when Pascal Struijk calmly slotted home from the penalty spot just two minutes from time. Having maintained composure for most of the game, a lapse in concentration ultimately cost them near the end. On 90 minutes, the defense failed to clear a corner, and the ball ricocheted off several players in the box as Blackburn defender Danny Batth poked the ball home. This gave the hosts a nervous wait with Sheffield United kicking off later in the day. But their subsequent defeat at the Stadium Of Light meant Leeds retained their position as leaders, with Sheffield United dropping to third on goal difference and Burnley - also on 49 points - sitting second. Leeds face strugglers Hull City on Saturday afternoon, where a win will guarantee their place at the top of the Championship, ahead of the FA Cup Third Round clash at home to Harrogate Town the following weekend. Farke's men are enjoying a seven-game unbeaten run, having not lost since the narrow 1-0 defeat at Blackburn on November 30. In that time, Leeds have scored 14 goals and conceded only three times - keeping four clean sheets. It is therefore no surprise to see the bookmakers favor Leeds to earn promotion to the Premier League come May
