I’ve been thinking about this team for a little while and I’ll be honest, Daniel Farke’s comprehensive monologue very nearly forced me into a rethink on Friday afternoon. It was intelligent, fascinating and convincing, to say the very least, but in the end, it wasn’t enough to make me have a change of heart.
It’s something different to what we’ve seen under Farke so far, but hear me out. I’ll start with the back four, which remains unchanged, providing Sam Byram is able to turnaround on the back of just a couple of days’ rest.Farke will check on the 30-year-old, but with Jamie Shackleton and Junior Firpo ruled out, Byram’s condition could be critical.
As mentioned above, Kamara comes into my three-man midfield and that should help Leeds control possession and dictate the tempo of the game. That’s something they did so well in the first half against QPR, but that fell away at moments in the second half as the visitors clawed their way back into the contest.
That leaves Piroe leading the line on his own, where he likes to be. By Farke’s own admissions, he’s not necessarily the man you want when it comes to runs in behind and movement in the final third, but with Rutter and Crysencio Summerville given the freedom to step inside, Piroe wouldn’t be short of lively support on either side.
