Nobody on the pitch could match the five key passes Gnonto served up for United’s other attackers. He should have had a penalty of his own too. No replays of Kenny McLean’s swipe of Gnonto in the second half have yet conclusively justified the referee’s rejection of the winger’s appeals. As all goals do, the equaliser changed the feeling around the visitors. It gave them belief and, after the adversity of a hard night a long way from home, a reward for their endeavour. Gnonto and Ramazani seemed to be finding more space, Rothwell seemed to be popping up in more dangerous pockets and the hosts’ errors were growing more frequent.
