Leeds United are considering selling goalkeeper Illan Meslier this January transfer window following a string of errors in the draw against Hull City.
Leeds United are reportedly open to selling goalkeeper Illan Meslier this month, should a decent offer arrive, amid criticism of his performance in the draw against Hull City. The 24-year-old’s late mistake against the Tigers meant that the Whites had to settle for a point from the game at the MKM Stadium. Leeds had come from behind to take a 3-1 lead on Saturday, but late goals from Abu Kamara and Joao Pedro saw Hull draw level in the final 10 minutes.
Meslier was criticised for his role in all three Hull goals throughout the game. It has led to calls for him to be dropped for the remainder of the season, starting with Saturday’s FA Cup third round clash against Harrogate Town. The goalkeeper has been linked with an exit in the current January transfer window, with Manchester United reportedly showing an interest as they search for a backup to Andre Onana. According to the Daily Mail, Leeds could be ‘open’ to selling Meslier in the next few weeks should they receive an offer that they deem acceptable. Should they sell this window without bringing in a replacement, Daniel Farke has Karl Darlow and Alex Cairns as options to replace Meslier in the starting line-up. It’s not clear what sort of price Leeds would be looking for if they were to cash in on the goalkeeper in January, it has been suggested that the player’s value sits at around £13 million . They however may not get the price that they may have previously got. Meslier’s value has dropped from €18 million (£14.94m) at the start of the summer to a current value of €16 million (£13.28m). He had a peak value of €22 million (£18.26m) in November 2022.
