Another one on Farke's chopping block tonight
Leeds United host Middlesbrough in an 8pm kick-off at Elland Road tonight, with the chance to climb back to the top of the Championship. Daniel Farke's team hosts a Michael Carrick side with only one defeat in their last six matches, but four wins in that time and an impressive 19 goals scored.Revenge is a dish best-served cold The last time these two sides met delivered one of the worst Leeds displays of the Farke era.
Boro, quite rightly, punished an absent-minded and sloppy home team. Tonight, another midweek visit from the Teesside outfit, is the ideal opportunity for a very different Leeds side to put that record straight. Isaac Schmidt, who is still waiting for a full debut, is the alternative for Farke. Neither Schmidt or Byram will be match-sharp after contrasting spells on the sidelines recently, but the latter’s injury record will be on Farke’s mind.Any danger of Wober not starting? It would be particularly harsh for Farke to not now give Max Wober his first league start of the season tonight.
This is a high-profile game. If Leeds are in a position to make luxury substitutions before the end, it will have been a very good night. Will the skipper be needed to come on and make a difference? Is he ready for a game of this importance? Largie Ramazani will soon be a complicating factor in that routine. The Belgian may well be deemed not ready again tonight, but by Saturday’s trip to Deepdale, he will be wanting his share of starts.
