Leeds United and Southampton will lock horns at Wembley on Sunday in the Championship play-off final
While reserving his criticism to some extent, Southampton manager Russell Martin has made clear his feelings about his previous relationship with Leeds United manager Daniel Farke. The arrival of the German at Norwich City signalled the end of Martin's playing career at Carrow Road, drawing to a close eight years at a club he loved.
“That was the plan, but things don’t always go to plan. Daniel had other plans and it became fairly obvious fairly quickly ." Martin went on to talk about his frustration at being edged out at Norwich, but the man who he faces in the opposition dug out at Wembley remembers things a little differently. Speaking ahead of Sunday's Championship play-off final at Wembley between Leeds and Southampton, Farle was asked about his memories of Martin from his days as Canaries boss in 2017.
"He judged the games and what was happening in the dressing room with the eyes of a manager. I was quite sure he would do a good job as a manager as he was desperate to do this one day. As a captain he was a leader of men and I sensed many skills that are important if you want to lead a group as a manager. Right now he's proving me right."
