Leeds United and their Championship rivals face a key period in the season
Leeds United and their Championship counterparts kicked off a busy festive schedule yesterday as Christmas arrives and the games come thick and fast as we end one year and welcome in a new one. As ever, it will be a key period of the campaign that helps shape the run towards the end of the season.
With four games to play from Boxing Day until the first Saturday in January and 12 points up for grabs, the automatic promotion race could see significant changes, as could the race for the play-of places. Given Leeds' current position of second in the Championship table and with going up automatically the focus, we've looked at the fixtures of the current top four to see how they compare in the forthcoming mini battle to start January in a strong position.
Current Championship league leaders Sheffield United face two of their main rivals in the next few games with a home clash against Burnley on Boxing day and then a trip to Sunderland on New Year's Day. With a home game against West Brom and a match away at Watford also to come, they've got by far the toughest run of games and if they are still top by the end of that run, it's likely it will take something special this season to dethrone them.
