Leeds United could find themselves without two senior centre-backs on Saturday afternoon when they take on Plymouth Argyle at Elland Road
Daniel Farke has seen his defensive depth take a hit this week as Leeds United approach Saturday’s clash with Plymouth Argyle at Elland Road . Pascal Struijk is due to miss his first game of the season as he undergoes treatment on a long-standing hernia issue.
Ethan Ampadu, for example, is a player who has lots of experience of playing in defence over his career so far and the midfielder was asked to play at the back for Leeds earlier in the season against Shrewsbury Town. He wouldn’t be the ideal choice should the worst happen this weekend, of course, given the impact he has made in the centre of midfield so far.
The vice-captain is a right-back by trade, obviously, but a number of managers have asked him to fill in at centre-back, slotting in seamlessly on a host of occasions. Sam Byram has spent time at centre-back for Norwich City in the Premier League and the Championship and with Junior Firpo fit, available and looking for his first minutes of the season, Byram could be considered to be an option.
The situation is far from ideal and Farke will be hoping he doesn’t have to utilise any other centre-half options this weekend, but if the question does arise, he shouldn’t be too short of answers.
