Ilia Gruev is looking forward to the challenge of chasing for promotion with Leeds United this season after narrowly missing out last term
Ilia Gruev is desperate to right the wrongs of last season’s failed promotion attempt. The midfielder was part of the Leeds United side beaten by Southampton in the Championship play-off final back in May.
“We met the day after the final and it was devastating and hard. But it was important, too. The boss said that it was a bad feeling but that’s football and we have to learn from it. He told us to go home, do what we want but, when we return for pre-season, we’re starting again and we have to forget about it.“We’ve started with a new energy and that’s the good thing about football, you can change things very fast and forget about it because football is a daily thing.
His consistently impressive performances in the midfield engine room piqued the interest of German giants Borussia Dortmund earlier this summer, according to reports. Gruev has outlined his personal and collective goals for the upcoming season, saying: “It’s about one, two, three percent and we want to improve to show we are even better than last year. This is the goal for the season, it’s small things. It’s simple, working hard every day, have one goal, one focus. We know what we have to do.
