Here are our five talking points from Leeds United's 4-3 win over Swansea City at Swansea.com Stadium in the Championship as the visitors came through a chaotic afternoon to take home the three points after goals from Manor Solomon and Wilfried Gnonto . This was the third seven-goal thriller Daniel Farke has overseen as Leeds United manager and the third time his side has come away with the three points. The other two came on the road too, at Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough.
If the defence left a lot to be desired, the resilience and fight shown by the team should be marvelled at. The first match after an international break can sometimes be a little odd or disjointed and the blow of an early concession like Sunday’s could have easily knocked United’s confidence. Gnonto has, admittedly, been off the boil by his own high standards in recent weeks, but as something of a talisman for the team, it’s still a big call to take him out of the line-up altogether. That’s an even bigger call when you’re giving the nod to someone like Solomon who has not shown a huge amount in Leeds colours up to now.
And then there is Gnonto. The Italian was poorly advised at the start of last season, when he effectively went on strike to force a post-relegation transfer away from Elland Road. However, since the midway point of 23/24, there has been no evidence of an attitude problem from the 21-year-old. That was the first time Wober had appeared for Leeds since August’s embarrassing loss to Middlesbrough in the EFL Cup. While he is not expected to oust any of Farke’s defensive regulars any time soon, it’s still important he stays sharp and ready when called upon.
A third teenager blooded in quick succession Amid the drama of the final few minutes in Swansea, it was easy to pass over the important landmark from the bench for James Debayo. The 19-year-old defender has had to wait a few months for that senior debut, but it finally came on Sunday. Top for the first time in eight months On March 29, Good Friday, in the hours before the Watford draw, Leeds were atop the Championship. They returned to the summit of the second tier for the first time last night. It feels significant, if that’s not too biased for a correspondent on said club’s beat.
