Former Chelsea midfielder Ethan Ampadu will join up with the Wales national team next week, having starred for Leeds United in their promotion challenge this season
Leeds United ace Ethan Ampadu is "definitely" a future Wales captain. That is the verdict of Wales boss Rob Page after naming the versatile player in his 28-man squad for their Euro 2024 play-off semi-final with Finland later this month.
His stellar club form has not gone unnoticed. Page said: "He is captain of Leeds at the minute. A big club. He can play a multitude of positions. His attitude is first class. He's always got a smile on his face. He leads by example on and off the pitch. He's a model pro, and definitely a future captain."Ampadu is one of four United players to be included in Page's squad. He and winger Dan James are in line to win their 50th caps against Finland on March 21.
"As lads, they're great lads. For what they've given to us and the country, Ethan's still a young lad and to potentially get his 50th cap is an incredible achievement. They deserve all of the plaudits they're going to get from that achievement. I'm just grateful to be a part of it when they do get that milestone."
“It’s not been ideal for Aaron, he’s had a few setbacks,” Page said. “Sometimes injuries change from the first instance. They can change overnight, there can be a difference in diagnosis.“The last two camps we’ve had him in and around the squad, even though he’s not been able to play a part. To have someone of his stature in and around the players is beneficial for us.“His rehab back to full fitness has gone to plan and we’ll have eyes on him every day.
