Leeds United secured a resounding 7-0 victory over Cardiff City at Elland Road, maintaining their grip on the Championship lead. Daniel James starred with two assists, while multiple players found the net in a scintillating attacking performance.

Daniel Farke insists his Leeds United squad will 'stay humble' after the Championship leaders thrashed Cardiff City 7-0 at Elland Road this afternoon. The hosts raced into a two-goal lead, with Daniel James the star of the show. The Wales international ran Cardiff's defence ragged, teeing Brenden Aaronson up for a sixth minute opener. James surged down the left flank and pulled the ball back for Aaronson to slot it home, claiming his eighth goal of the season.

James was also the provider for United's second goal. His inch-perfect cut back was turned in by the onrushing Manor Solomon into an empty net. But the Whites produced a scintillating attacking display in the second half as James, Joel Piroe (2), Wilfried Gnonto and Mateo Joseph also got in on the act to help them record their biggest home win since March 1972. The comprehensive victory extended United's unbeaten Championship run to 12 matches and kept them top of the table, a point clear of Sheffield United. It was the perfect way for United to respond after Monday's drab draw at Burnley. Farke said: 'There will always be criticism; we are Leeds United! We have to adapt a bit to a style of opponent and Burnley was an important clean sheet. 'If you want to be in charge of Leeds you have to accept it is an emotional club with supporters all around the world. Otherwise you should stay in non-league. 'Everyone cares so much about this club. We have a chance to write a chapter of history. In the last two decades, Leeds have been promoted to the Premier League just once. 'Sadly when Marcelo did it, it was during Covid in an empty stadium so we have that opportunity to do it with supporters. We will stay humble but self-critical. Together with fans we have something to cheer about.' Farke was delighted with their 'relentless' showing against the Bluebirds. 'When we were 5-0 up, we still had the desire to create and score,' he said. 'Quite often in such a game, players have the temptation to cheat a bit and want another goal or assist. 'But what we showed today, everyone chipped in for the team. We were fighting and pressing. We had full control to the last second. That was the reason why we were so clinical today. Not perfect because we missed a few (chances) but days like this don't come often in this league so definitely I'm in a good mood.
