Leeds United secured a 1-0 win over Derby County, moving them back to the top of the Championship table.
Leeds United climbed to the top of the Championship on Sunday evening with a 1-0 win over Derby County at Pride Park. The Whites were the better side in both halves, with Jacob Zetterstrom tested at the beginning of each. However, it took the introduction of substitutes to find the winner. Brenden Aaronson finished well, but it was the triple change of Joel Piroe, Dan James and Manor Solomon that turned the game.
The victory moved the Yorkshire club back to the top and opened a small gap between themselves and Sheffield United. Here are four things we spotted from the victory at Derby: Joseph misses his chance It was a big surprise to see Mateo Joseph get the nod to face Derby on Sunday night. However, with Piroe watching on, the young striker was not able to make a huge impact, missing a couple of good chances in the first half to make the game more comfortable. Next up against Blackburn, we can expect Piroe to come back into the starting XI. Ugly side made perfect Farke said in his post-match press conference that this was the perfect result for Leeds and while it was not always pretty on the eye, it was certainly the right outcome. The Whites were dogged in their performance and dug their heels in to get the three points. It was a performance of champions and it won't always be free flowing. Ampadu getting better After a lengthy injury lay-off, there were some doubts as to whether Ethan Ampadu would be fit enough to play again at Derby. However, he led from the front and broke up play brilliantly for the away side. Farke was delighted by his performance and there seems to be no signs that he will be rested on New Year's Day. Ampadu justified his selection and it was well deserved his recognition from the manager.
