However, B&M has not confirmed which Wilko shops it has bought, or if it will save any jobs. The stores are expected to be rebranded as B&M. Sky News reports HMV owner Doug Putman is targeting around 200 stores after an original offer for 300 sites was "radically re-shaped" following challenges with suppliers, who are said to be demanding their debts are repaid to guarantee supply to stores. However, sources told the news site there is no guarantee it will go ahead.
Wilko was founded by James Kemsey 'JK' Wilkinson as a single store in Leicester in 1930 and became famous for selling just about everything from DIY to beauty products, as well as its pick and mix sweets. But it has struggled in recent years and fell to a £35.9million loss in its year-end results.
