Legendary Ford kept in storage for 16 years up sells for eye-watering price
A LEGENDARY fast Ford that's been kept in storage for a number of years has sold for an eye-watering price.The sporty Escort, which is finished in a striking Diamond White, comes with just 408 miles on the clock - having spent some 16 years off the road., the Escort is in "astonishing" condition and comes complete with "labels, stickers, tags and paint dabs visible just as it left the factory".
The KGF listing reveals that the Escort RS Cosworth "was a sports derivative and rally homologation special of the fifth generation Ford Escort" that was designed to qualify as a Group A car for the World RallyThree questions drivers should ask to save £600 on insurance premiums revealed Indeed, the Escort RS Cosworth competed in the WRC from 1993 until 1998 - replacing the Sierra RS Cosworth - and in that time was driven by the likes of Miki Biasion, Carlos Sainz Snr and even current FIA chief Mohammed Bin Sulayem.It was available as a road car from 1992 until 1996 in limited numbers, with only 7,145 examples being produced - with this example being one of the very last.
The listing notes that the Diamond White finish can be described as "impeccable thanks to the ultra-low mileage and indoor storage."The figure is the second-highest sum paid for a Cosworth at auction, after one sold for £596,520 last year.
