Clubbers could enjoy sausage and chips and chicken in a basket before heading back onto the dance floor
It's now been almost a decade since a legendary nightclub that was 'the best place to go' in Liverpool for a night out was reduced to rubble. Coconut Grove, known to clubbers as the 'Cokey,' stood on the corner of Green Lane and West Derby Road in Tuebrook for years. The site itself had a long history in the city, once operating as The Carlton Cinema, which opened in 1932.
Here you can see what part of the loved building looked like during its last moments. But while the building may no longer stand, the memories of the popular venue live on among residents. Prior to its demolition, urban explorer Toc66 visited the old Coconut Grove site, capturing these fascinating images of some of its final days. The ECHO recently took a look back at what the nightclub building looked like inside before demolition took place.
