Members voted on two proposals, to change to a committee-style system or a leader and cabinet model on Thursday. Fewer councillors supported the second option, receiving 13 votes for, 32 against and seven abstentions.Sir Peter, who was first elected to the role in 2011, quashed rebels' claims that too much power was placed in the hands of one person under the current system, reports the"You don't just walk away and say we will have a committee in a few weeks' time," he said. "We would be living in a mess.
Others believe removing the choice from people who lead the city would be undemocratic, the LDRS said.
