Manchester United's young defender Leny Yoro is finally back to full fitness and making an impact for the Red Devils.
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim can finally start to use the talents of promising young centre back Leny Yoro as the defender returns to full fitness after a string of consistent appearances in recent weeks. Yoro's start at Old Trafford was hampered by a foot injury sustained during pre-season in the USA. This injury forced him to miss the first three months of his debut season after surgery following a friendly against Arsenal.
Before joining United in the summer, Yoro was praised as a generational talent by much of Europe's elite, with Real Madrid reportedly leading the race to sign the defensive prodigy from his boyhood club Lille. However, it was Manchester United who secured the French youth international in a deal worth over £50 million, much to the delight and intrigue of United supporters. The Frenchman's signing felt like a step in the right direction under INEOS as it showed that United could still attract some of Europe's most sought-after talent, competing with other top clubs like Real Madrid. Despite signing under Erik Ten Hag's management, Yoro never made a competitive appearance for the club under the Dutchman's guidance, as his injury recovery concluded after Ten Hag's departure. With the new head coach Ruben Amorim employing a three-centre-back system, it was anticipated that Yoro would be a key player in his plans once he was back in the match day squad. The young defender finally made his United debut in December, coming on as a substitute in the 2-0 away defeat against Arsenal. Despite the scoreline and limited playing time of 31 minutes at the Emirates, Yoro impressed on debut, showcasing his exceptional recovery speed, a feature even more remarkable given his 6ft 3in height. Since his debut, Yoro has made three starts under Amorim while also featuring regularly as a substitute when called upon. Yoro's defensive skills were particularly evident in an impactful substitute appearance at Anfield, where he raced back to the United defensive line to execute a spectacular sliding tackle on Darwin Nunez, diverting the ball away from Andre Onana's goal just in time. As United return to the Emirates for a second time this season on Sunday, Yoro has put himself in contention to start against Arteta's side in the FA Cup, and his talented defensive qualities may be crucial if United wish to defend their title in the competition
