The One Day actor plays a sullen maths genius whose work makes him the target of dangerous criminals
It’s been a year since we watched Leo Woodall in his breakthrough role in Netflix’s adaptation of David Nicholls’s devastating romcom,. Despite the fact that he was playing the irritating Dexter, who takes an infuriatingly long time to realise that his pal Emma is “the one”, viewers loved him. But they’re not going to love him in Apple TV+’s new thriller
His friend Fiona obviously fancies him, but he couldn’t care less. After a rowing session on the river he’s too busy to eat the food she has lovingly cooked for him – “Time is complex in my world, Fiona,” he says, pompously. Still, Robert invites Ed to dinner at his place. Andrea is excited by the recent discovery of an ancient Baghdad library. When she shows Ed a picture of it, he recognises number patterns on the walls and he’s excited too. It seems the Arab scientist behind the library could have been on to the same mathematical breakthrough that Ed is on the verge of, and that a former Cambridge student was also pursuing.
I was hoping the mysterious forces out to get Ed would succeed by the end of, say, episode three so I could move on to a more exciting number-based activity such as completing my tax return but, alas, no. Ed and Taylah start to uncover a big conspiracy and the whole thing drags on for eight entire episodes.
