A review of the Les Misérables arena concert tour in Belfast, highlighting the powerful performances by Killian Donnelly and Bradley Jaden despite the absence of Michael Ball and Alfie Boe.
As a big musical theatre fan, saying Les Misérable is your favourite show is often scoffed at for being a basic or common answer.
Finally returning the favour seven years on, I brought my sister to the SSE Arena on Tuesday night to catch it in the middle of its run in Northern Ireland. If you are expecting to see a stage production like you would on the West End or in a theatre with a full set, props and the lot, that isn't what this concert tour is and frankly, you won't miss that stuff at all.
The entire company gave such faultless performances throughout the entire production that it was hard not to give a standing ovation after every song - it is no surprise that the best of the best have been cast in this world tour so to be able to witness such amazing talent coming together in one production was really fitting of that 'spectacular' in the show's title.
Having the actors perform out to the audience rather than interacting on stage as they would in a theatre production really creates that feeling of being at a concert while still getting the drama and storyline you would expect from seeing a musical.
