It's been two decades since actress Leslie Ash was struck by a terrifying ordeal, contracting a deadly superbug that left her unable to walk and threatening her entire future. The star was hospitalised in April 2004 after suffering two cracked ribs from falling off her bed during an intimate moment with her husband, ex-footballer Lee Chapman , reports OK!.
Also renowned for her roles in the 1979 cult classic Quadrophenia, the actress contracted methicillin-sensitive staphylococcus aureus , a bacterial infection similar to MRSA. Leslie credits her husband for his support with her rehabilitation and fitness. "My husband has helped me with my rehab and getting me into the gym and making sure that I stay fit. You've got to keep your core strong and there are so many things you have to do mentally as well."
In more recent times, Leslie has been seen using a walking stick while out and about. Opening up to The Sun, she revealed: "They said I'd be in a wheelchair by 60 because of my terrible hips and knees. I was only given a slight hope of recovery, but because I wanted it enough I was able to achieve what I have today."
