Leyton Orient manager Richie Wellens expresses his desire to sign Leeds United loanee Sonny Perkins permanently but acknowledges the high improbability of it happening. Perkins has contributed four goals in 24 appearances for Orient since joining on a temporary basis last summer. Wellens aims for Perkins, alongside Spurs loan players Jamie Donley and Josh Keeley, to maintain a significant impact as the team strives for a play-off push.
However, Wellens recognizes the developmental purpose of these loans and anticipates their return to their parent clubs upon completion of their stint in east London. Orient remains unbeaten in their last seven matches across all competitions, with Perkins providing three assists. Despite this, Wellens remains realistic about future transfer prospects. Wellens jokingly states his wish to swap contracts with both Donley and Perkins, implying the likelihood of those transfers happening. He emphasizes the responsibility Orient holds in developing these young players, provided by Leeds and Tottenham, and their commitment to keeping them for the remainder of the season. Wellens suggests Tottenham sees Donley's future within their first team.
