Liam Payne was 'completely clean' in visa tests days before he plunged to his death from a hotel balcony, friends have claimed, after the 48 year old was found dead in Buenos Aires
Friends of Liam Payne have claimed that the star was sober just days before his tragic 45ft fall from a hotel balcony. Insiders revealed that he had entered Argentina on September 30 with the intention of renewing his expired US visa. They said that during his conversation with US embassy officials, his previous rehab stints were brought up and he was asked to take a drug test to confirm his sobriety for visa renewal.
An insider confirmed that Liam was examined by a US Embassy-certified doctor and collected his clean results on Tuesday. They added: "Roger is upset - at one point on Wednesday he was phoned by a hotel manager who said they had found Liam asleep on the floor of the elevator. They moved him to the sofa in the hotel lobby but the manager said he couldn't stay there, and that he needed to go to his room.
The One Direction star arrived with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy and close friend Roger Nores on September 30. He visited the US embassy in Buenos Aires that week but his application was reportedly delayed due to his history of substance abuse.
