Liam Scales expresses his confidence in his defensive partnership with Cameron Carter-Vickers, as they impress in Celtic's Champions League match against Atletico Madrid. Scales feels like he belongs beside Carter-Vickers and believes he has earned his trust.
And he’s undoubtedly got the faith of the club’s support. But crucially for Liam Scales, he says defensive partner Cameron Carter-Vickers now also knows he can rely on him. Their partnership at the heart of the Hoops’ rearguard is still in its infancy. But for large spells against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League in midweek, they looked like they’d been together for years. Only Alvaro Morata’s header to make it 2-2 spoiled a near-perfect display from Scales and Carter-Vickers.
He said: “Cameron is a dream to play alongside. He’s got a bit of everything. He’s quick, strong, good in the tackle. Cam is good at defending the box and brilliant on the ball. “We have a good balance with the left and right footer. It’s easy for us to go down either side. When you have two right-footers it’s always harder for the one playing on the left.
“I know what I’m capable of and that I can go and do it. Watching from the side here, I always believed that if I got a chance and a run of games, I could do it.” Scales said: “I enjoyed it on Wednesday night. It’s just game after game just now and that helps me because I just have to keep thinking in one direction.
His display against Diego Simeone’s side was another big step in Scales’ development. And the team’s performance felt like tangible progress for Rodgers’ side in Europe, despite only collecting a solitary point.
