A Liberal MP has ruled out leaving the party over its position on the Voice but has rejected any suggestions the Coalition was a “credible” alternative government.
The Tasmanian MP revealed Wednesday that she would not follow the Coalition’s opposition to the Voice and would instead join the ‘yes’ campaign.
“I think we need to elevate this issue above divisive, nasty politics and walk together into the future with unity, with purpose, for a united Australia,” Ms Archer told ABC Radio National on Thursday.“I stay because I know I’m not the only person who thinks that way. I stay because I think the Liberal Party is at a crossroads.
The Liberal Party brand has been smashed since the then-Morrison government suffered a massive loss at the 2022 Federal Election. Labor now has control of all state and territory legislatures on the mainland and the Liberal Party’s shock defeat in the Aston by-election has again generated concern over its ability to mount an electoral comeback.
