Former Labor advisor Darrin Barnett says Senator Lidia Thorpe quitting the Greens Party is a “good” change for the yes campaign and Uluru Statement from the Heart.

“I think legislatively, it’s going to be a bit more difficult for the government, but on the other hand, I think for the passage of the Uluru Statement and the Voice, I think it’s a good thing that Lidia Thorpe is no longer the spokesperson for the Greens,” he told Sky News Australia.

“I think the 12 per cent of Australians who vote Green, they probably are supporters of the Voice on balance if not an overwhelming majority. “So not having their spokesperson speaking from the hard, hard left, I think, will be to the advantage of the yes campaign.”
