The firebrand Senator has spoken out after she dramatically disrupted the Mardi Gras parade in Sydney overnight.

Footage emerged on social media of the former Greens Senator intentionally blocking the New South Police’s float just after 9pm on Oxford Street.

Taking to social media on Sunday morning Ms Thorpe said she was proud to have taken part in the float under the banner of Pride in Protest. “Today, we still face violence from police. Proud to have joined the #PrideInProtest float in Sydney to say #NoPrideInGenocide, #NoPrideInPrisons, and #NoCopsInPride.”

“About 9pm last night a woman lay in front of a float on Oxford Street, momentarily preventing the progress of the parade,” New South Wales Police said.
