Lidl and Asda start to lift supermarket restrictions after shortages left some shelves bare
Lidl has become the latest supermarket to announce that it will lift restrictions on fruit and vegetables in the coming days. Asda have also removed limits on a number of their products - while others will remain in place for the time being.
Tesco, Aldi and Lidl limited purchases of peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers to three items per person, while Morrisons set a limit of two per customer on tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce and peppers. The supermarket said availability overall had improved as expected, and supplies of tomatoes and peppers were expected to be back to normal within a couple of weeks.
Domestic producers also reported having to cut their use of greenhouses due to higher electricity prices.
