Lidl has issued urgent product recalls for Alpenfest Salted Mini Pretzels due to a potential burning sensation in the mouth and Deluxe Cheddar Cheese Wedges due to concerns about Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Consumers are advised to return affected products for a full refund.
Lidl has issued urgent product recall s for a number of items due to potential contamination and the risk of consumer discomfort. The supermarket is recalling two Alpenfest Salted Mini Pretzel products because they may cause a burning sensation in the mouth when consumed, potentially leading to discomfort and making them unsafe. Lidl Northern Ireland has also issued an urgent recall on a number of Deluxe Cheddar Cheese Wedges due to fears they have been contaminated by Listeria monocytogenes.
The recall encompasses 150g packs of Sriracha, Walnut and Smoked Cheddar Cheese Wedges, with a best before date of 11 May 2025. Listeria monocytogenes can cause symptoms similar to the flu, including high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick, and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis. Some individuals are more vulnerable to Listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old, and people with weakened immune systems.Point of sale notices will be displayed where the product is sold. Anyone in possession of one of the recalled products is encouraged to return them to the point of sale for a full refund. This news follows a recent wave of product recalls over the past month, which has seen a number of supermarkets issue warnings. Among the most notable recalls, Coca-Cola has withdrawn certain batches of its popular drinks, including Appletiser and Sprite, after discovering elevated levels of chlorate. Chlorate, when consumed in high quantities, can pose potential health risks, particularly for vulnerable individuals such as children and those with underlying health conditions. The company has urged consumers to return affected products for a full refund and to avoid consuming the contaminated beverages. Marks & Spencer has also issued an urgent recall of certain batches of its Crispy Southern Fried Chicken Burgers and Chicken Kyivs, also in Northern Ireland, due to concerns over salmonella contamination. Salmonella infections can lead to serious gastrointestinal illness, making this recall a crucial one for consumers to heed. The supermarket has strongly advised shoppers to check their kitchen cupboards, follow official recall guidance, and ensure that any affected products are disposed of or returned for a refund
