Lidl UK is increasing wages for its 28,000 hourly paid colleagues, with rates rising to £12.75 per hour for most workers and £14 for new starters in London. The changes, effective from March 1st, exceed the updated National Living Wage and follow a similar pay increase announced by rival Aldi.

Thousands of employees at Lidl supermarkets across the UK will find that their wages will see an increase next month. The German grocer has announced it's introducing a "market leading" pay increase for 28,000 hourly paid colleagues.

The fellow German chain, which also offers its colleagues paid breaks, will also introduce the hourly increase from March 1. Aldi's own increase will see store assistants paid £12.71 an hour, with that increasing to £13.62, which is just 3p shy of Lidl's offers. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
