Celtic star Liel Abada has opened on the rising tensions in the Gaza region between Israel and Palestine in an emotional social media update.
It comes amid reports that Celtic have held private talks with the 22-year-old after Green Brigade's support of Palestine attracted controversy in his homeland. The club have condemned a banner unveiled the ultras group in the North Curve section of Celtic Park with support shown for Palestine during the win over Kilmarnock with a message reading: "Free Palestine, victory to the resistance.
The show of solidarity was slammed by former Hoops star Nir Bitton and sparked an angry exchange between the former Parkhead player and supporters. Football Scotland report that Abada has been "offered support" by the Celtic hierarchy after the Israeli international was targeted by online trolls following the display. With the death toll mounting in recent days due to rising tensions in the Middle East, and the Abada has now broken his silence on the conflict in his homeland.
Posting to his Instagram story, Abada said: It is difficult to explain the range of emotions. I feel at the moment we woke up to one of the darkest days in the history of my country. "I would like to thank everybody sending me supportive messages on social media over the last couple of days. It is not taken for granted. My heart goes out to all the families who lost their loved ones. Praying for more peaceful days. Love you all."
