Erling Haaland has just moved in, and he's in good company in the extraordinary village known as the 'Knightsbridge of the north'
It is, without any shadow of a doubt, the north's glitziest village. Supercars worth more than most people's houses sit bumper to bumper along the village's main street, residents casually walk along in their gym attire dripping in haute couture accessories, while charity shops here are stuffed with designer cast-offs like DKNY jeans and Jimmy Choo heels.
Living on the Edge is for the very select few though. The average price for a house here is three times the national average according to Rightmove - at a jaw-dropping £823,000, while the average detached house price is £1.3 million. Last year prices rose again by 11 per cent to show you the kind of demand there is for properties in this exclusive enclave.
Earlier this week it was Man City star Jack Grealish in the photographers' lens - papped as he strolled with his partner and newborn baby as they headed for a coffee in the Cafe Nero in the village. In Alderley Edge you'll find a local butchers and a bakers and a chippy - but in a telling nod to the wealth in the area you'll also find a host of diamond jewellers, a number of aesthetic clinics and a travel agent selling million pound holidays.
Naturally with the designer labels in store they have their wealth of famous shoppers, but Jodie says: "No one makes a fuss over the footballers in the village. David Beckham was in here just the other week and he always nips to Foster's chip shop round the corner. Mind you, hairdresser Jen does admit that when she first spotted Erling Haaland in the village she dashed out of the shop to ask him for a selfie. She laughs: "My sons are massive Man City fans so I had to leg it outside and ask for a photo."
It always used to be a statistic trotted out that Alderley Edge had the biggest sales of champagne per head than anywhere else in the UK too. There's no way of fact checking that, but local bar owner Nigel Ramsay would tend to agree. "The only time I was ever asked to sign an NDA was when Ronaldo came in - but I said I don’t NDA for anyone. He doesn't drink but came in to buy a gift.
"We get quite a few of the footballers come in. It's a shame Kyle Walker has now left because he always used to be in, and I'm a Man City fan!" Estate agent Richard Leece at Gascoigne Halman in Alderley Edge says he has seen demand continue to rise in the village.
