Two Amazon employees share their experiences working in a fulfillment center, highlighting the roles, the festive season rush, and the unique feeling of contributing to customer orders.
So what is it like to work at Amazon , how does it all work and what are some of the secret insights that we would never expect? We spoke to two dedicated Amazon employees about their career so far, and just how their roles work within the giant fulfilment centre- EMA 1. At Amazon there are dozens of roles at each type of warehouses, from fulfilment centres, sortation centres and delivery stations - each of which have a complex number of jobs that are pivotal to the whole process.
Amazon is one of the UK's top 10 employers, with more than 75,000 workers across the country who all contribute to the logistical marvel that is one of the world's biggest companies. In the festive period, Amazon then further employs another 700 workers in order to help with demand over the company's busiest period. But just how are some of the workers finding their time at Amazon? Joyin Li, 27, lives in Oakwood, Derby, and works in the stow department at the Amazon fulfilment centre in Kegworth. Joyin said: 'I've been working here for about three years now, I've been trained in a variety of different roles in my department. I've been for three years, that is the basic role, but I also have additional training in other areas. 'Around the Christmas period it definitely gets a lot busier, I've noticed from early on in November there are a lot more people to deal with the volume of orders, as the stuff is already stowed away in the warehouse ready for people to buy. We don't need as much staff as outbound as it’s mainly just storing things.” So how do they feel about playing a part in their fulfilment centre? Joyin said: 'It feels quite strange knowing that you are fulfilling customer orders every day. It feels nice that we are contributing to people's lives, as well as helping people here with their work - it's quite rewarding.
