💬 ‘Life is more difficult than ever for young people facing homelessness – that’s why I fundraise for them’ Jo Richardson has raised more than £50,000 for End Youth Homelessness
It’s a cause that’s very close to Jo’s heart, as she has spent her career working in housing and she describes the work End Youth Homelessness does to support young people as “incredible.”
Jo remembers her eyes being opened to the reality of what some young people were facing. “I was really shocked that there were young people my age whoor where they were going to eat,” she says. “There was me at the age of 18 thinking things like: ‘Am I going to go to university? Maybe I should travel a bit more. I wonder what job I’ll do? I wonder what my future family will be like?’
and as part of that, she wanted to raise funds for a charity which worked with young people all over the UK and supported them, as well as raising awareness about homelessness and the different ways it affects young people. As well as carrying out a research project looking at ways of preventing homelessness, Jo wanted to fundraise for an organisation and realised that the work of End Youth Homelessness fitted the bill perfectly.
Jo completed the challenge walking 630 miles, with 35,000 metres of climbs and descents – the equivalent of four times Mount Everest. She completed the walk in 54 days, with the majority of the journey carried out in a continuous walk over 46 days.
